Group-therapy programs
in Melbourne’s north

Group therapy, also known as day programs, provide ongoing mental health support to people living in the community.

Weekly group sessions are facilitated by a mental health clinician and are held onsite at Northpark Private Hospital. We provide a safe and supportive environment for you to share and receive support alongside other people who may be experiencing something similar to you.

You don’t need to have stayed in hospital at Northpark Private Hospital to attend our day programs, however, some people choose to join a day program after a hospital stay.

A GP or psychiatrist referral is needed. Prior to commencement, you will be assessed by a Northpark Psychiatrist for Day Program suitability and to determine which program best meets your needs.

Our Day Programs

At Northpark Private Hospital, we offer a range of Day Programs to suit most of the common mental health conditions and challenges. These programs are scheduled once per week, either as a half day (3 hours) or a full day (5.5 hours).

Due to the structure of some of the programs, some may start at set times throughout the year while others are open to join at any time. Your doctor will be able to advise you on the most suitable program for you.

The ADHD Day Program is for adults with a diagnosis of ADHD and who are seeking support to manage their symptoms. The aim of the program is to provide participants with a helpful framework to understand their diagnosis and dispel common myths that often create feelings of guilt and shame

4x 10-week terms, Full day
Designed for adults with a wide range of mental health problems who are interested in using creative expression as a starting point for therapeutic exploration. No creative experience is required to benefit from this program.

12 weeks, Full day
Schema Therapy is a form of advanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for people with depression, anxiety, personality challenges, or trauma experiences. There is also growing evidence for its effectiveness in treating conditions such as OCD, addiction, and eating disorders. Schemas are strong and enduring maladaptive patterns of thought, feeling, and memory, which start in earlier life and get activated throughout our lives. This program helps people to understand when these activations are occurring, how we cope with them, and teaches other ways to manage our experiences that might help us to better meet our needs. The program also utilises strategies from DBT, ACT, and MBCT.

12 weeks, Full day
Designed to treat and support patients with Depressive Disorders and Anxiety. The program draws on a number of evidence-based treatment modalities, including traditional CBT, ACT, DBT and Positive Psychology. The overall goal of the program is to equip participants with the skills required to manage their mood, to reduce symptoms of depression, worry and anxiety and enact positive behavioural changes.

6 weeks, Half day
The program focus is to treat and support patients with a diagnosis of Generalised Anxiety Disorder, or experience excessive worrying. The treatment modality is CBT, an evidence-based approach considered first line treatment for GAD. The overall goal of the program is to equip participants with the skills required to manage their own GAD symptoms, to reduce worry and anxiety and enact positive behavioural changes.

The Emotion Management Day Program (EMDP) is designed for people with a history or emotional dysregulation, including Borderline Personality traits, or classic and complex PTSD symptoms. EMDP runs for 10 consecutive weeks and provides important foundational skills for Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
