Our Older Person Mental Health service is suited to individuals over the age of 65 years that may be experiencing concerns with their mental health. It covers a broad range of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression and other mood disorders.

This ward will also be suited to people who are experiencing or need assessment of mental health symptoms for neurological conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease.

What does our Older Persons Mental Health service include?

Our goal is to provide a comfortable, supportive environment combined with structured, evidence-based therapy designed to promote recovery.

Our specialist mental health team will tailor a program suited to individual needs. This could be in the form of individual sessions, group therapy or evidence-based medical treatments and may include an inpatient admission to our Older Persons Unit or community-based services.

A new, dedicated 10-bed Older Persons Unit was constructed with the requirements of people over the age of 65 in mind as part of our recent redevelopment.

An inpatient admission provides people needing more intensive treatment with a hospital-based stay, and round-the-clock care.

Group 9437.png Day Programs

Weekly group sessions or “day programs” are available as a step-down approach for those transitioning from a hospital stay, or for people living in the community that may need some additional support.

Your doctor will be able to provide guidance on which day programs are most suitable for you.

Cost

We’re recognised by all major private health funds that reimburse treatment costs.

Depending on your level of private health insurance cover, we can estimate hospital charges, outline how much cover your fund offers, and inform you about any out-of-pocket costs you may need to pay. We’ll need to do a private health fund check before you can be admitted or start the program.

We understand that costs for admission to a private mental health facility and related charges can be complex, so please call us on (03) 9468 0850 with any questions you have – we’re more than happy to help.

To access our Older Persons Mental Health service, a referral from a GP or psychiatrist is required.
Please speak to your doctor or for further information contact our mental health intake co-ordinator on (03) 9468 0850 or via the enquiry form below.
